Lely, Naples
Location
Naples, Florida
The Lely community approached OPI with a concern: visitors were mounting the Lely Horses statues, and there was a risk of injury. Pat Trefz took on the project, initially considering building a fence around the horses to deter people from climbing them. When Pat inquired about the artist and the sculpture’s name, he discovered they were called the "Freedom Horses," created by Colorado artist Veryl Goodnight. Inspired by their name, Pat realized, "You can't put a fence around freedom." Instead, he designed a rock and water feature that prevents people from climbing the horses while still allowing their beauty and spirit to remain unconfined.
