OPI Steps Up for STARability’s 9th Annual Run, Walk & Roll 5K
This Saturday, October 17, the OPI team will trade site plans for running shoes as The Site Walkers take part in STARability Foundation’s 9th Annual Run, Walk & Roll 5K at Baker Park in Naples.
The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and brings together runners, walkers, rollers, families, businesses and supporters from across Southwest Florida for a morning centered around something much bigger than a finish line: creating a community where people of all abilities have opportunities to learn, work, connect and thrive.
A SW Florida Organization Making a Lasting Difference
STARability Foundation has been part of the SW Florida community for more than 4 decades.
Its story began in 1983, when a small group of local parents came together to create what was then known as the Foundation for the Developmentally Disabled. Their goal was to create greater opportunities and support for their loved ones. In 2018, the organization became STARability Foundation, a name that better reflects its focus on recognizing what individuals can do and creating opportunities for them to reach their potential.
Today, STARability works to transform the lives of individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities through programs focused on vocational training, continuing education, employment, life skills, social engagement, health and wellness, and meaningful participation in the community.
It is an organization built around ability, independence and connection, values that have made STARability an important part of the Naples community.
Why Every Step Matters
The Run, Walk & Roll 5K is STARability’s second-largest annual fundraising event, and the money raised has a direct role in sustaining and expanding its programs.
Proceeds support opportunities for STARability participants to continue their education, develop employment skills, train for and secure jobs, build relationships, participate in health and wellness initiatives, and become more connected with the Southwest Florida community.
The community has shown just how much support exists for this mission. Last year, more than 500 people participated in the event and helped raise more than $90,000 for STARability’s programs and services.
This Saturday, we hope to help build on that momentum.
